How Much Does an Emergency Dental Visit Cost in NC and SC?
Updated 2026-11-02 · General information, not medical advice.
Emergency dental fees vary widely between offices and cities. These are general ranges to help you plan — always ask the office for its fee before treatment.
The visit itself
A limited (problem-focused) emergency exam with an X-ray is usually the first charge. Expect a higher fee for after-hours or weekend visits.
Common treatments
- Simple extraction: often the least expensive way to stop pain.
- Surgical extraction (e.g. impacted wisdom tooth): more costly.
- Root canal: front teeth cost less than molars; a crown is usually needed afterward.
- Temporary filling or crown re-cement: usually modest.
Paying less
- Ask whether they offer an emergency-visit flat fee.
- Dental schools (e.g. UNC Adams School of Dentistry, MUSC in Charleston) may offer lower-cost urgent care.
- Community health centers use sliding-scale fees.
- Ask about financing or payment plans before work starts.
